On this one-year top-up degree, you will build on your previous studies. Flexible module choices enable you to choose the subjects to study based on your existing academic subject experience. Students specialise in a range of areas such as forensic computing, cyber security, human and computer interaction, quality assurance, database systems, networking, web design, 3D effects, gaming, programming and animation.
You will be required to complete an individual research project related to the main theme of your studies, in an area that interests you. This can take the form of a practical or theoretical project with the support of a lecturer with relevant expertise.
The curriculum leading to a degree in Computing prepares students for positions as computer scientists in business, industry and government, or ready for further study in computing field. The curriculum’s main objectives are to impart students with an understanding of the basics of computer science, to develop proficiency in the practice of computing, and to prepare them for continued professional development. Learning outcomes for computing is listed below.
Upon completion of a B.Sc. in Computing, students will be able to:
- Apply algorithmic, mathematical and scientific reasoning to a variety of computational problems
- Design, correctly implement and document solutions to significant computational problems
- Analyze and compare alternative solutions to computing problems
- Implement software systems that meet specified design and performance requirements
- Work effectively in teams to design and implement solutions to computational problems
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Recognize the social and ethical responsibilities of a professional working in the discipline

Who is this course for?
To prepare you for employment, this course focuses on practical skills, influenced by the latest research and by industry requirements. This means learning core industry tools and software alongside the latest theory and research, helping you develop into a confident, competent computing professional. This course is for the Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma holders and NCC L5DC Diploma holders who want to extend their learning pathway to bachelor degree.
The course is 100% coursework and is made up of lectures and practical sessions. Designed to build your individual portfolio, the key mode of assessment will focus on coursework and technical projects. This includes building skills for assuring software quality, developing advanced skills for database systems, advanced concepts in agile methods and managing information system change. IT graduates generally have a good record of achieving employment and progressing in their professional work. Our career-focused modules will educate you about specific career paths this course can lead you to, as well as equipping you with skills to enhance your employability after graduation.
